Virtual Instruction vs. In Person Band Options
Hello Ryle Band Families,
I’ve received several questions from parents regarding the upcoming decision regarding virtual vs. in person instruction for the start of the school year. The main question that has come from this is how will this work for band?
After discussions with Mr. Shafer, here is my understanding of the matter:
- If a student chooses the virtual option, there is no virtual option for band class instruction during the school day. Therefore if a student chooses the virtual path they will not be participating in daily band class activities.
- Students that choose the virtual option may participate in extra-curricular activities. For band, this would include Marching Band, Colorguard/Winterguard, Pep Band, and Jazz Ensembles.
- Depending on the # of students that select the virtual option, the Ryle Band Directors may pursue additional extra-curricular band options if needed/able to do so. But that of course will depend on a number of factors to be determined after the survey results are completed for the district.
- Students that choose the in person option will have the opportunity to participate in band class during the school day. We will be creative in our schedule, facilities, etc. to accommodate this, but we will be permitted to play during the school day classes.
If you have any additional questions in this regard, please contact Mr. Shafer for more information: matt.shafer@boone.kyschools.us
Take care,
