Instrument Return/Marching Band Instrument Checkout
Hello, Ryle Band!
We hope that everyone is doing well!
This email includes instructions for school-owned instrument return and marching band instrument checkout procedures. Additionally, we will need students to turn in all school-owned books, accessories, and any other equipment (including percussion mallets, sticks, and practice pads).
Instrument return and marching band instrument checkout will occur on Tuesday, May 12th and Wednesday, May 13th from 3:30-6:30 pm outside of the Ryle band room.
Marching percussion and brass instruments have been in the band room untouched since the week prior to our NTI days (March 11th). According to the CDC, these instruments are free of any Covid-19 virus. Directors will handle getting marching instruments from the inventory and placing them curbside for pickup. To ensure social distancing, no parents/students will be admitted into the band room during this process. Instead of filling out paper rental contracts, a Google form has been created. This form should be filled out by the student/parent in the car during the instrument checkout process. Here is a link to that form: https://forms.gle/smFz91rvNTgHqnqw6. Each instrument rental is $30 and can be paid through cash, check, or online on the Ryle Band website. Checks can be made to the Ryle High School Band Boosters. Only marching band brass and percussion instruments will be checked out at this time.
If you have a school-owned concert or marching instruments, these will also be returned curbside. All instruments must be returned, even if you are going to check out the same instrument at a later time. Additionally, all Ryle band books, mouthpieces, and accessories must be returned on these dates. Please make sure that all personal belongings have been cleaned out. To assist with the return process, please fill out this Google form prior to returning your instrument: https://forms.gle/bhrbeKziHrq99Yd17. This form does not need to be filled out if you are only returning a method book. Serial numbers are typically a long string of numbers and a few letters, found inside the valves on most brass instruments and found on the front or back of most woodwind instruments. These are not the model numbers, which are typically shorter and less complicated. If you are struggling to find the serial number, please reach out to a director for help.
Once all instruments have been returned, they will be isolated in the band room for 2 weeks. This is longer than the lengthof time the virus can survive on instruments/surfaces in order to be extra cautious. During this time, no one will be allowed in the band room (including directors). Once this length of time has passed, directors will begin the instrument assessment and inventory process. Instruments will be cleaned/disinfected per the guidelines provided by the National Association for Music Education (attached in this email). Once this process has been completed, we will begin the instrument checkout procedures in a similar fashion as discussed above. This date will be provided at a later time.
