Hello Band Parents,

The next two weeks are very busy for the Ryle Marching Band so here is one of our famous long email messages with a lot of information.  Please take the time to read all the way to the bottom.  Thank you.

Always look on the Charms Calendar for updates.  This is also where you can go to sign up to volunteer or donate food items.

We had quite a few students having issues with the heat and exhaustion this past Saturday.  Please, please push your kids to get more rest the night before a competition and talk with them about drinking more water at competitions. We always have water stations set up at our Base Camp site.  Make sure they eat food before Saturday morning practice and that they bring a healthy lunch before getting on school buses.

A gentle reminder, students are to wear their white show shirts under their uniform.  If their show shirt is too dirty and stinky because it was worn the night before they still must wear a white t-shirt under the uniform.  Please remind your marcher of this requirement.

Here we go:

Thursday night at 6:00 is our 4th Quarter Booster Association meeting in the band room.  This will be a very short meeting as several parents have to hit the tarps at 6:30.  Parents are encouraged to attend to learn about Booster finances, Ryle Tournament of Bands totals, the final two weeks of marching band and other important announcements.

Friday is Homecoming and it is a busy evening with both the parade and the game.  This will be huge game with Ryle playing against Simon Kenton.  Please consider helping out in concessions as this will be a huge fund raiser for us.   We also need parents to sit around the band area in the stadium to keep it open and if possible arrive early to wipe down the seats.

The Boosters will be feeding the kids a fast dinner after the Homecoming Parade.  The main meal is Jersey Mike’s subs generously donated!  We are also giving them bags of chips and water.  Here is the schedule for Friday:

4:45 PM  -  Report to band room to get in uniform
5:15 PM  -  Band walks as a group down the sidewalk on route 42 to parade start at Union Community Center.
6:00 PM  -  Parade Begins
            (Dinner in Lower Commons – Jersey Mike’s subs, chips, water immediately after parade)
            Warm Up and head to stadium- Brief Warm up
Pregame  -  National Anthem from the stands
Halftime –  no show performance, band plays in the stands
            Leave and change out after halftime

Booster parents and younger siblings are invited to walk behind the band handing out candy.  A candy donation tote will be set up in the band room for sweet donations.

Please note, all students will be in uniform on Friday for both the parade and the game. Due to the band playing in the stands at halftime, there will be no pit equipment in the stadium, but the pit and the guard are also to be in uniform throughout the evening.

Saturday Quarter Finals at Bryan Station in Lexington.  For new parents, basically we are competing for a spot in the Sweet 16 for 5A schools.  The state is divided up between east and west with eight bands in each division.  If we make it through then we move on to Semi Finals on Oct 29th at Papa Johns stadium. Finals competition consists of the Final Four in each band class also at Papa Johns on the 29th.

12:45 PM        Trucks/Equipment Vehicles leave for Bryan Station
 1:00 PM        Band Meeting – Band Room/All members and chaperones
 1:15 PM        Load Buses
 1:30 PM        Leave for Bryan Station HS
 2:45 PM        Arrive at Bryan Station (3:45 PM Students dress in Uniforms)
 3:00 PM        Band Competition Begins
 5:00 PM        Ryle Performance
 6:00 PM        Semifinalist Announcement and Performance Draw
 6:15 PM        Leave Bryan Station
 7:30 PM        Arrive at Ryle

Please note, because Mr. Elliott is trying to make it possible for kids to attend at least part of the Homecoming Dance, we are not feeding the kids a full dinner.  They will get a heavy snack on the bus ride home.  But we must have kids and parents stay to unload the trucks at Ryle in the evening. Band students will be able to purchase their tickets to the Homecoming Dance Saturday night at the door.

In preparation for State Finals on Oct 29th, it is a tradition for the Booster Band parents to decorate lockers, the band room, and make section posters.  You should have already received notice from your Parent Section Leader about what your section is organizing.  January Cates is leading these efforts. january.cates@boone.kyschools.us
