The Marching Raiders
The Ryle Marching Raiders are an extra/co-curricular, competitive marching band that
competes in the Mid-States Band Association, Kentucky Music Educators Association,
and Bands of America circuits. The marching band also participates in all home football
games and the Ryle Homecoming Parade every fall. Marching band requires a commitment to
summer camp dates along with some evening rehearsals from the beginning of the school year
through the first of November. Football Games typically occur on Friday evenings and
Competitions are Saturday events.
Concert Band
Concert Band is a curricular ensemble open to any student at Ryle interested in being
in band. Prior experience from middle school and/or private lessons is preferable, but
beginners are accepted. Outcomes are based on grade level/semester appropriate assignments,
band literature assignments, and ensemble performances.
Honor Band
The Honors Wind Symphony is a select curricular ensemble of approximately 50 instrumental
musicians at Ryle. An audition is required for admission into the course which occurs in
early April every spring for the following academic year. Students receive an Honors Course
Credit with a 1.04 weight. Outcomes are based on grade level/semester appropriate assignments,
band literature assignments, required auditions, chamber music assignments, and ensemble
performances.
Percussion Ensemble
This course is designed for all percussion students at Ryle. Percussionists will
perform as a large ensemble, in small groups, and be divided between the Concert
Band and Wind Symphony for band performances. Prior band/percussion experience is
preferred, but not required for Percussion Ensemble. Outcomes are based on grade
level and semester appropriate assignments, band literature assignments, required
auditions (for Honors students), chamber music assignments, and ensemble performances.
Jazz Ensemble
This extra-curricular ensemble is an auditioned group of 16 jazz musicians. Students
will audition in early December and participate in sectionals and full ensemble rehearsals.
Pep Band
This voluntary, extra-curricular band will meet twice in early December to review and
learn pep music for 10 home (5 boys and 5 girls) high school basketball games. The band
also participates in district, regional, and state basketball tournaments as the seasons
dictate.
Ryle Independent Winter Guard
The Ryle Independent Winter Guard is a competitive guard program for the students
of Ryle High School and high school students from schools without winter guard programs. The majority
of students are students from Ryle High School. The winter guard competes in the Tri-State Circuit along
with Winter Guard International. The winter guard has achieved great success in the past few years
consistantly placing in the top three guards in their class in Tri-State and being a WGI Regional Finalist.
